Financial stuff Overview The purpose of an appeal is simply to raise money. This was not requested by Michael and Donna, but with huge reluctance and after much cajoling they finally consented to allow us the opportunity to help them at a time of real need. The immediate goal is to raise at least $20,000 for Michael by the end of the year, to cover three areas of need: Medical Bills Outstanding medical bills are in the region of five figures. Michael Moore It should not need saying - a vast number of us in the larger herb community, from clinical, retail, industry, growing, wild-crafting and medicine-making to ethnobotany, natural product chemistry and academic settings have been touched one way or another by Michael Moore. For decades, including 28 years of residential teaching at his SW School of Botanical Medicine, Michael has probably influenced, impacted, taught, reached one way or another more of us than any other living herbalist - he is a towering figure of Western herbalism in our epoch. His books have positioned the previously little known materia medica of the south west in the mainstream of clinical botanical medicine. His web site is a prodigious resource of historical material from the eclectics and physiomedicalists, of hundreds of plant images and data as well as SWSBM teaching materials. There is neither space nor time here to do justice to his contribution... ...the point right now is that Michael Moore needs our help Update Dec 2006 Michael has been dealing with worsening chronic ill health, including serious renal and cardiac concerns for the last few years. In the latter part of 2006 he suffered a series of major setbacks requiring hospitalization, surgery, intensive care and rehab as well as machine hemodialysis. On top of major physical and financial hardships, this has disrupted his primary goal of completing the process of distilling all his teachings into a video format for online distribution. Happily, Michael is out of immediate danger and returning to Bisbee, but there is much to be done. You can help, by donating now and spreading the word.
